Dental radiographs (X-rays) are a very important part of the dental exam and should be performed in conjunction with most dental cleanings.  Dental radiographs are obviously needed to evaluate any teeth that show visible problems.  However, a tooth that appears perfectly normal on the surface may still have significant problems in the roots or bone surrounding the tooth.  For this reason, a full set of dental radiographs is recommended at the time of a dental cleaning.
